Why I'm Opening the Door

There are a lot of ways to share pieces of your life these days.

You can post a photo, film a quick video, or write a caption that disappears beneath the next one a day later.

I've done plenty of that, and I probably always will.

But somewhere along the way, I realized I wanted a place where stories could linger a little longer.

Not because every day is extraordinary…it definitely isn't…but because ordinary days are often where the best stories are hiding.

Hen & Hearth has never really been about bread.

Or chickens.

Or gardens.

Or gatherings.

Those are simply the things that bring us together.

What I've been chasing all along is something much harder to describe.

A feeling.

The feeling of being welcomed.

Of sitting around a table where no one expects you to have it all figured out.

Of finding beauty in ordinary days - even the ones that don't go according to plan.

Because if I'm honest, mine rarely do.

Some days are full of fresh baked goods, blooming flowers, and conversations that linger beneath the string lights.

Other days are rushed school mornings, laundry that somehow multiplies overnight, recipes that don't quite turn out the way I hoped, and wondering what on earth I'm making for dinner.

Most days are a little bit of both.

And maybe that's exactly the point.

I don't want this Journal to be a highlight reel.

I want it to be a place where I can share what's growing - in the garden, in Hen & Hearth, and in my own life…as honestly as I know how.

Some entries will be about recipes. Others about gathering people around a backyard table. You might meet a particularly opinionated chicken, hear about a Garden School adventure, or read about a lesson I learned the hard way. (Those usually make the best stories anyway.)

Mostly, though, I hope this feels like dropping by for a visit.

A place to pause for a few minutes, breathe a little deeper, and remember that even in the middle of full schedules, unexpected detours, and ordinary Tuesdays, there's still plenty of good to notice.

Thank you for being here.

I'm really glad you found your way to this little corner of the internet.

Until next time,
Keep noticing the good.
